Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to purchase a club membership?
By becoming a member of the SSGC, you will be able to maintain an official handicap. This handicap is used for various events, including charity golf events, competitions and other golf-related events. In NY, all handicaps are administered through a golf club affiliated with the Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA). The SSGC maintains such affiliation as is authorized to administer and maintain handicaps for its members. Additionally, there are other member benefits that can be read about throughout this website.
If you already have a handicap, that is great! You can still join SSGC as a member, however, we strongly recommend that you deactivate any other club memberships to avoid paying a renewal fee, which would be a redundant charge.

Absolutely not! We started out 3 years ago as a group of dads from Merrick, looking to get together for a fun golf outing. As we have expanded, we encourage our participants to invite family, friends and colleagues to participate. While we have our roots deeply entrenched in the Merrick/Bellmore communities, we welcome all who bring good vibes to the course! There are many participants from all around the tri-state area that understand the value and fun that the MDC brings and we hope to see you all out there!

In 2024, we had approximately fourteen (14) different sponsors for the Merrick Dads Cup. We are once again seeking sponsors for the event, which includes paying for signage at tee boxes, providing swag or items to be raffled off or broader sponsorships to fund certain aspects of the event such as food and/or drink. We are open to annual sponsors of the South Shore Golf Club as well. If you are interested in sponsoring or have more questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Membership fees are non-refundable. However, if you do not wish to renew your membership for the following year, you can disable auto-renewal on your account page.

No, the SSGC and MDC are not 501c3 charities, we are a for-profit organization. However, we strongly believe in charitable causes and have donated to the KAT6 Foundation (kat6a.org) in the past and intend to do so in the future as well. More specific information on charity associations and future involvement can be discussed by contact us.

We have organically grown drastically in the past three (3) years from a small group of friends playing golf to hosting an event that we expect will well exceed 100 golfers. The more interest and engagement we get from our members, the more events we will run. Some ideas in the pipeline are short golf getaway trips and smaller tournaments for some of our more experienced golfers on tougher courses (e.g. Bethpage Black).
